ASU provides two kinds of optional training opportunities for research with tribal communities depending upon the type of engagement.

  1. If native peoples are the subjects or participants in the research (i.e., health or behavioral research), we recommend CITI training. The CITI module can be taken as a part of the IRB course or as a standalone: IRB – Native American Research. For more information, visit our page on human subject research training.
  2. If the research is a partnership with tribal communities, whereby tribal members are collaborators, co-investigators or co-authors (and not the subjects of the research), you may attend a workshop by registering on Research Academy for the session titled “Meaningful Research: Effectively Engaging with Tribal Communities and Working on Tribal Lands.”
