ASU provides two kinds of optional training opportunities for research with tribal communities depending upon the type of engagement.
- If native peoples are the subjects or participants in the research (i.e., health or behavioral research), we recommend CITI training. The CITI module can be taken as a part of the IRB course or as a standalone: IRB – Native American Research. For more information, visit our page on human subject research training.
- If the research is a partnership with tribal communities, whereby tribal members are collaborators, co-investigators or co-authors (and not the subjects of the research), you may attend a workshop by registering on Research Academy for the session titled “Meaningful Research: Effectively Engaging with Tribal Communities and Working on Tribal Lands.”
